Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals come with a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or when collecting your vehicle. This document outlines the terms, conditions, insurance coverage, fees, and your obligations for the rental period. In the event of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle requires:
- To rent a vehicle from Car Hire, you must be at least 21 years old, although age restrictions can vary based on the vehicle type, and extra fees may apply for drivers under 25. A valid full driving licence relevant to the vehicle category is required, along with identification and proof of your current address. You must also provide valid payment details and a security deposit, and comply with any other conditions outlined in the Rental Agreement.
3. Reservations and Payments
- Reservations can be made via our website, by phone, or directly at our Totton office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. Full payment and a security deposit are generally required at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment systems.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, it is your responsibility to conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be created and must be signed by both parties. Upon returning the vehicle, it should be in the same condition as when collected, barring normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated, and appropriate charges will apply. The vehicle must be returned with the same amount of fuel as at the start of the rental; otherwise, refueling fees will be incurred. Late returns may result in additional charges, so please contact us immediately if you expect to return the vehicle later than planned. You will be liable for any parking fines, traffic violations, or additional charges incurred during your rental, along with an administration fee.
Insurance and Responsibility
- All rentals include basic third-party insurance. Detailed coverage and excess amounts will be outlined in your Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be available to limit your financial liability. Please review these options closely. You will be liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess unless further coverage is secured. Damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms remains your responsibility, irrespective of insurance coverage.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For accurate details, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or failure to show may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited uses of the vehicle:
- Use of the vehicle for illegal activities is prohibited. Engaging in racing, rallying, off-roading, or any activities that pose a risk is not allowed. The vehicle must not be used to transport hazardous materials. Sub-letting to others or permitting unauthorized drivers is forbidden. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited. The vehicle should only be used for its intended purpose, and adhering to passenger and weight limits is mandatory. Driving beyond agreed geographical boundaries requires prior approval.
Breaching these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
Liability Limits
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Car Hire Totton will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, that may result from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claim is capped at the rental amount paid in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or fraud.
9. Applicable Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be handled exclusively by the courts in this jurisdiction.
10. Updates to Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms as needed. Changes take effect immediately upon posting on our website. Continued use of our services indicates acceptance of the revised Terms.
